About the course.

We believe exceptional services to people in poverty are delivered by those who share our Vincentian Values. The Values Training Course was designed by VIVAT in 2016 with the purpose of deepening and further enshrining our shared values within and across Vincentian organisations.

The course is an exciting half-day session run by our VIVAT Co-ordinator. Attendees leave the session feeling inspired with a better understanding of the wider Vincentian Family of which they are a part of and the importance and context of our shared values.

What does the course cover?

OUR HERITAGE

Discover the origins and reach of our movement that has driven the charitable works of the Vincentian family since 1617. The same Vincentian spirit is still as evident in Britain today as it was all those years ago!

OUR FOUNDERS

Be inspired by the charitable deeds of our founders, St Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac, who have inspirited thousands of people through the ages to offer a caring and compassionate face to those experiencing poverty.

OUR VALUES

We believe one of the key strengths of our Vincentian values is their accessibility: whilst all of our services were founded and rooted in the Catholic Church – and it is essential in recalling their histories that we recognise this Christian aspect of service – the values can be, and indeed are, lived out by people of all faiths and none.

 FAQs.

  1. Why do you teach Vincentian values?

Ensuring that our staff live out the Vincentian values is absolutely vital to ensuring that each service operates in a truly Vincentian way, where the whole person is addressed rather than simply the situation which has led a client to access a service. Vincentian charities are different to other voluntary and care sectors; since our beginning, over 400-years ago, the embrace and support of the dignity of each individual has been a central theme of the Vincentian charism. VIVAT recognised the need to educate employees within Vincentian organisations on the history and uniqueness of their identity.

  2. Is this course for me?

The Values Training Course is mandatory for all staff across our family of charities, from the front-line staff to the senior managers and trustees. We also welcome other Vincentian organisations and like-minded individuals to take part.

  3. I am not religious, can I still take the course?

Our Vincentian values are not restricted to people in any particular religious tradition. We invite everyone to understand their fundamental truths to which many of us aspire.

  4. What if my company already has its own values?

Our shared values are not intended to replace or change the existing values of individual organisations, but to complement them by expressing the Vincentian vision and commitments that they hold.

  5. How often do you run the course?

Daughters of Charity Services offers the Values Training Course multiple times throughout the year. Please contact our VIVAT Co-ordinator to find out the next available session.

  6. Where is the course held?

At our Central London office in Victoria where you will have the opportunity to meet a wide range of people from other Vincentian organisations.

  7. How long does the course take to complete?

The course is a fun and educational half-day session run by our VIVAT Co-ordinator.

    * COVID update: Courses are now held in 90-min sessions online until further notice.
